The Jar Sling

Start with a cotton braided rope of one metre length +- 3mm thick. The thickness of the rope has an effect on the handle lenghts at the end so make it a bit shorter if the rope is thin or a bit longer if the rope is thicker.

Tie a square knot to both ends to make a closed loop. (any holding knot will do actually)

Lay out the total loop from top to bottom and, as per blue arrow, fold the top over downwards (to create two "ears" on both ends)

Twist each ear over itself (as per Blue arrows)

Shift the left "ear" over the right "ear as per diagonal blue arrow. This creates a twist in the middle that needs to be lengthened as per bottom blue arrow

Pull this twist under the looped "ears" upwards as per blue arrow

When this twist has been pulled through adjust the total knot so the one handle (the end of the arrow), the actual sling part (the middle of the arrow) and the other handle (start of the arrow) all are of similar size

Voila: A jar sling. Make sure the sling is tight around the rim of the jar.
